Normal colon wall. Left and right, in pink, the two muscular tunics whose smooth muscle fibers are oriented perpendicular to one another. Between the two, in the collagen colored in yellow, there are accumulations of purple color, the Auerbach’s plexus (or myenteric plexus). The cells more clearly violet with a round nucleus and nucleolus are the ganglion cells (neurons) that are absent in Hirschsprung’s disease.
