TEM of Hepatitis B virus (HBV), the cause of serum hepatitis or hepatitis B, mag. 39,760x (at 24 x 36 mm). Human HBV, a DNA virus (partly double stranded), is the prototype of the Hepadnavirus family. The complete virus (virion) is a Dane particle (diameter about 40 nm). The virus attacks the liver, causing liver inflammation, flu-like symptoms, and jaundice.
