Dyslexic brain activity during reading aloud. Image of the brain of a dyslexic patient, male sex, obtained by positron emission tomography (PET) projected on a rebuilding 3D MRI of the brain in coronal view, during an oral reading (phase of verbalization). This study shows that the blood circulation of the brain increases according to certain major territories (language, hearing, vision…) with a predominance in the left cerebral hemisphere, seat of the center of the language. On this image, one observes an anomaly with an increase of the blood circulation, at the time of this activity, in the anatomical territory of the pallidum.. For a similar scan showing brain activity in a normal male subject, see image 000912-01.
