T2-weighted MRI and grey inversion of the normal brain in a 30-year-old male patient. Coronal section with, superimposed, a colourized 3D MRI image of the brainstem (brown) constituted by the midbrain (cerebral peduncles, tegmentum and tectum) pons and spinal bulb. The brainstem is prolonged by the spinal cord (light brown). The technique of grey inversion on the T2-weighted MRI images allows for images like those of anatomical sections in black and white: the grey matter appears in dark grey and white matter in light grey.
