Eosinophilic esophagitis. Dense infiltrate of eosinophils in the basal layer of the esophagus epithelium having led his detachment with the connective tissue (lamina propria) underlying (light esophagus is top, right). A normal esophagus never contains eosinophils. Histological section, HES stain, x 200 (at 24 x 36 mm).
